Readers are Leaders

Readers are leaders and leaders are readers. Is it just me or does TV seem less appealing? Has your appetite for reading grown as mine has? I think all the many negatives we seem to be bombarded with every day may be an important factor in my growing hunger to read books that inspire me to grow, excel, and understand people and life to a much greater degree.

Charles “Tremendous” Jones said “You are the same today that you are going to be in five years from now except for two things: the people with whom you associate and the books you read.”

Henry David Thoreau said “A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting

Here are two books I am working through and recommend:

I am one of those people who are in the process of reading several books at once. I read books that I can apply for the most part, whether in my relationships, my attitude, my business and biographies of people I admire; they inspire me. My personal development library is growing steadily.

My husband, on the other hand, reads one book at a time, from front cover to back and reads about events that stretch the imagination and take him places he would never want to venture to.

What kind of reading do you enjoy? Do you want to be transformed to new places are are you transforming yourself and the way you perceive and function in your life?

Recession Proof Jobs - What Women Want

A new headline in USA Today read Direct Sales Offer Recession Proof Jobs.

The article goes on to say that direct sales businesses are seeing their sales forces rapidly expand as the nation’s unemployment rate soars to nearly 9% and those who lost jobs and nest eggs look for new ways to make money.

More women are leaving professional and corporate careers (such as bankers, lawyers and physicians) that are very structured. They want more control over their life and time.

There are roughly 15 million direct sellers in the U.S. — independent contractors who sell products or services primarily through one-on-one interactions. In 2007, the most recent year available, the sales industry generated $30.8 billion in U.S. sales alone, according to the Direct Selling Association.

More than 85% of the direct selling industry is comprised of women.

Community Business Bonding

I am very thankful for the truly great people that come into our lives. I have recently enjoyed meeting the officers and members of the Inland Valley Business & Community Foundation. I saw what they were trying to accomplish for our local community to help the local business owners thrive, not just survive, in this economy. As a local business owner myself I am well aware of how important it is to support each other.

I was asked to become a member and I agreed to help. What a rewarding decision that has been! Albert Schweitzer said “Aim for service and success will follow.” I have seen the benefits of that to be true for me and through the IVBCF I am honored to have met so many people who are living examples of this kind of generous and giving souls.  I have great expectations for each and every one of the people involved and I look forward to deeper and very mutually beneficial relationships with each of them.
